Johann Friedrich von Meyer (1772-1849) was a Christian esotericist and theosophist of German origin. Lawyer then jurist, his real interest was literature. He was believed to have had a defining spiritual experience which pushed him into a lifelong study of mysticism, Kabbalah, astrology, arithmosophy, magnetism and alchemy. He went on to become a Freemason, but also continued to simultaneously explore the mysteries of the invisible from a diversity of angles. This led him to develop a system of symbolism in which, myths were related to the primordial unity, the Fall and then a reintegration back into unity. This idea was pivotal to his thinking and the key to his tireless quest for the truth.
Cosmogony, cosmology, and eschatology are bound together with a profound Christosophy in de Meyer, making him a theosophist with a complete and faultless system”. (Citation de J. Fabry)
