The I Ching as a Knowledge tool

Psychology > Archetype-Jung
By : Pierre Faure -  Friday, 24 December 2010 10:00
caze_yi_king Our left brain is comparable to a little kid, spoiled, too pampered by the actual society. Jealous, he dislikes his Siamese twin, his right side, affirms his existence. Thus as soon as terms like intuition are evoked, chance or worse... divination, his is alarmed and says : all of this is just resignation of reason !  Help (understand: "I'm abandoned !").
Although. Chinese, who are keen on numerology, wrote 2500 years ago a text, the I Ching (or Ji Jing), "the book of changes" which enables throwing coins or Aquileia sticks to interpret different hexagrams, and this way stand back facing a situation and get an indication to an asked question.
Facing a linear perception, causal, rational of time and space which prevails in Western countries where emptiness is synonym of "nothingness"; Chinese got a circle vision, not causal of time and space. Emptiness is for them synonym of "potentiality" and they are interested by identifying "the events which come together".

These two visions are compatible ? What credit to give to what is a matter of chance ? This are the question that Michel Cazenave will ask to these three participants: Nathalie Pilard, Marie-Laure Colonna et Pierre Faure.

To Pierre Faure (practitioner) "the present natural contains the seeds of the future, interrogate the I Ching enables to show its force lines: we can determine their concentration and observe their direction".
To Marie-Laure Colonna (Jungian analyst) "for an analyzed,  draw the I Ching, involves that the desire of the conscious Self comes to knock at the door of the Self. By the I Ching, we can sound out the archetypal seeds of a situation and thus get closer to what psychoanalyst call objective psyche reality (...) but the words are just codes, this understanding expresses in analog terms according to the tradition of everybody. The I Ching constitutes a formidable complement to every way of search".

To Nathalie Pilard (searcher in religion theories) "the I Ching presented to Carl Gustav Jung though he had just broken up, painfully, with his spiritual father, Sigmund Freud. As a synchronicity (a chance which as a meaning) the I Ching becomes his tool, his allied. The researches of Jung about chance, synchronicities and intuition show the failure of causality to understand the entirety, to understand the whole manifestation of the living. It doesn't mean that one has to abandon causality, but the researches of Jung form a coherent proposition, ... a changing theory. "

To understand the reality of the world in its diversity, its changes pass necessarily by a harrow of dogma or undoubted theories behind which it is easy to hide ? Our left brain (rational) encourage us to capitulation ? Is it a slow drift of our abrahamic civilizations where by naming our "God" unique, we forget his real teachings ?
