Canonized in 2002 by John Paul II, Padre Pio, Francesco Forgione (1887-1968), lived his faith to his bones. Ordained Capuchin priest in 1910 and named in Pietrelcina, he is in the medical corps during World War I. In 1911, he tells his confessor about red marks and aches in the feet and hands, moreover he has mystic visions.
The quest, ordered after the discovery of stigmas, declares him sound in mind.
Then followed a popular fervor which creates disorders, which led ecclesiastical institution to isolate him for a while. That is why his followers give him the gift of healer, bilocation or even levitation. There were twenty million people who assisted to his offices and five million who confessed.
