Between "Light" and "Illuminism", the 18th century was marked by a thirst of universal knowledge. Among emblematic characters of that time, few had the glitter of Martinès de Pasqually and none was surrounded by as many mysteries as him. The birth of the founder of the Elus Cohens is still an enigma as well as his last moments and a legendary aura covers his whole existence. His origins are discussed and we don't know much about his youth and formation...
Before 1750 which marked the beginning of his public life, even his closest disciples such as Louis-Claude de Saint Martin, Jean-Baptiste Willermoz and the bishop Fournié are discrete about his biography, or even silent...
The patronymic Martinès de Pasqually is also the object of many interrogations. He makes the orthography of his name vary as well as other names according to periods of his life.

One thing is certain, after visiting many French cities, in 1762, Martinès de Pasqually lives officially in Bordeaux during ten years. In that city, his influence will shine over all Europe.

Who was this mysterious and original man ? For what reason do we know little about him ? In this presentation, Michelle Nahon is to bring new biographical elements. Thanks to a three part structure: civil state, set up in Bordeaux and the departure from this town, she talks about important moments of Martinès de Pasqually's life : his birth, his military career, his masonic beginnings, the hostility from other masonic lodges to him, his protectors, his financial difficulties and the famous "legacy"... trying to take things into consideration between myth and reality.

A thirty minutes presentation illustrated by many images, and facsimile, filmed during the conference of the tercentenary of Martinès de Pasqually, organized by the Institut Eléazar and the magazine Renaissance Traditionnelle,in Marseille, in September of 2010.
