Helena Blavatsky

Helena Blavatsky (1831-1891) was the founder of the Theosophical Society (TS) and the stream of Esotericism known as Theosophy.
As a young woman, she discovered various works on Freemasonry and the occult sciences. She was also naturally gifted with paranormal powers such as clairvoyance and the ability to have visions.
She married young and set out on various journeys in search of magicians, healers, shamans, lamas, yogis and others, all of whom influenced her greatly.
n return from her wanderings, she claimed to be able to communicate with the Masters of the Great White Brotherhood and with the Mahatmas.
Having lost her faith in orthodox religion, she founded a short-lived spiritualist society based on Allan Kardec’s ideas. She then settled in New York, where she met Colonel Henry Olcott and with whom she founded the Theosophical Society in 1875.
Following stays in India, she created “The Theosophist”, a review where she presented her ideas on an eternal divine wisdom - Theosophy - and of a brotherhood of wise masters.
Adyar in India became the world centre of the Theosophical Society and a hub for spreading its teachings of traditional Indian wisdom.
The first French TS group began in 1883.
After being accused of charlatanism and trickery, she undertook, whilst already ill, a final set of journeys around Europe, simultaneously completing her written works.

As a result, she published various books including “Isis Unveiled", "The Secret Doctrine", "The Voice of the Silence", "The Key to Theosophy", etc.
