Henry Corbin meant by "hierohistory" a holy or sacred history which occurred within the world of the soul, within the being, to which external happenings are the reflection and the consequence. The fifth chapter of the Futûhât al-Makkiyya by Ibn ‘Arabî, dedicated to the commentary of the first sura of the Koran, the Fâthia, "the one which opens" the Book, gives an illustration.

God feeds the Spirit giving to him the conscious of his own being and his dependence regarding the divine Lordship.

Because he takes pride from his kingdom, the Spirit is put to the test by his opponent, Passion (hawâ), and its minister, the sensual desire (shahwa). The story of this fight as an inner and cosmic drama which finds its solution in a salvation eschatology, shows the role of the hermeneutist  as a messenger of ths hierohistory evoked by the following of the sura.

A thirty minutes conference filmed within the context of the days of the Amis d’Henry et Stella Corbin.
