According to the Kabbalist tradition the 22 letters of the Hebraic alphabet presides to the creation of the Universe. They conserve the memory and the vibrations of the origin. The art of Hebraic calligraphy enables to connect to this memory and the energy of the beginning. Like others great calligraphic traditions, it not only the art of writing sacred letters but also an inner way, a physical and spiritual commitment which goes beyond the simple technique of writing. A way closer to musicality than the seeking of the beautiful,
calligraphy is rhythm, fundamental movement of the flow and the ebb, of unification and separation.
That is why, to Franck Lalou, the Greek etymology of the word calligraphy (kalos graphein, "to write beautiful") only expresses partially its deep meaning. Hebraic calligraphy begins by a unique stroke, the first gesture of the Aleph. This simple line hides the whole meaning and secret of the Kabbalah.

Its the body which writes, a gesture which goes beyond intellect. By the quality of this simple line, it is possible to appreciate the spirituality of an individual. This first line is a line of separation. An oblique line which divides to gather after thanks to ligature between this one and the yod. Both dualist and not-dualist, the essence of the Hebraic thought is in this movement of unification and separation. From this matrix all the other letters will reproduce this imbrication. Each line is like a whole, each letter as a negotiation between different lines.

As says Franck Lalou in this presentation-performance: "calligraphy is mystery between two, between the body and the spirit". Master of his gesture without falling in the mastery, landing on the sheet without hesitation with a definitive and risked gesture, Franck Lalou managed to make converge one's heart and spirit to the point of its Kaalam (tool of work). By gestures with great nobleness, it transmits us this art of the line which essence is "to know how to begin, maintain and end".
A 56-minutes performance filmed at the Forum 104.
