Paradoxically,when a man is sincerely burnt, he only seeks a way: it's the first way that is before him. It's precisely what happened by the meeting apparently miraculous between René Daumal, when he was 22 years old, with Alexandre de Salzmann (1874-1934). To Daumal, Alexandre de Salzmann was a mediator: thanks to him, Daumal discovers Gurdjieff's teaching. Friend of Kandinsky and Rilke, member of the group Jugendstill, Alexandre de Salzmann was a remarkable painter and draughtsman. His covers and illustrations for the magazine "Jugend" made him famous in the Germany of beginning of 20th century's. Alexandre de Salzmann, major figure of art in the 20th century, also was a set painter and renown director.
